Sometimes it’s best to stay out of the way

Colder weather makes horses go wild sometimes, and Jay and Chance are no exception. They are playing so hard lately that sometimes I have to sit back and watch from a safe distance. I see from the windows of her little house that Mom is watching them too because they are very amusing.

I told you about some of our favorite games but there are other games too. Jay and Chance like to play a game called Bother or Roll? When you see your friend starting to have a lovely roll, you have two choices: you can either have a lovely roll yourself or you can try to jump on their head. When someone tries to jump on your head when you’re having a lovely roll, that is a Bother. Jay and Chance like to play Bother or Roll? because it involves a lot of jumping in the air. And given a choice, they both would prefer to Bother rather than Roll. They are silly.

A good game of Bother or Roll? will usually deteriorate into a lot of running, chasing, and Butt Popping. Butt Popping is a thing that says “I could kick you if I wanted to!” without anyone having to get hurt. Jay and Chance also love to do a thing called Snaking which is where you shake your head around like a snake. Snaking is a thing that says “I think I am a big tough horse.” Chance does a lot of Snaking, but when I come around, he backs away with respect because he is scared of me. I am like Seabiscuit: small but mighty.
